Petra Fibrichova, your teacher is a certified yoga therapist and yoga teacher specializing in yoga for healthy aging. She finished her Yoga Teacher training in 2012 and she wanted to dive deeper into studying how yoga practices can help people address their health challenges and improve their well-being. She finished her 800-hour Yoga Therapy studies in 2015. It prepared her to work with individuals that deal with limitations due to chronic conditions or injuries. After working with several different age groups, she realized she loves working with seniors the most.

She believes that yoga, if taught skillfully, is one of the best practices for seniors. Yoga provides stretching and strengthening of our muscles but unlike other exercise classes, it also leads us toward exploring deeper aspects of our lives and offers practical tips for reducing our suffering.

Yoga provides the support and tools to become more resilient, joyful, loving, and content. It helps us find our purpose and connects us to our true nature.

She teaches her classes in the spirit of kindness and playfulness, offers lots of modifications, and invites her students to go beyond the poses and explore the subtler practices of yoga. Her goal is to challenge your strength, balance, and flexibility, but also to give you the opportunity to explore your breath, your focus, and your habitual thought patterns. Yoga is a wonderful practice of self-discovery.

Before Covid-19 hit, she had taught several group yoga classes for seniors in Piedmont and Oakland, California. Her classes now continue on Helpful Village zoom. She also specializes in yoga and movement therapy for Parkinson’s disease and teaches PD specific classes for the East Bay community.

We look forward to meeting you in class!
