Movie this Month: A Beautiful Mind (2001)

Description:  This 2001 film won 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. Directed by Ron Howard, A Beautiful Mind is a moving, emotionally intense biopic about Nobel Prize-winning mathematician John Nash and his battle with schizophrenia. Anchored by strong performances from Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly, the film balances his brilliance in game theory with the tragedy of his delusions.

The movie takes significant creative liberties. It heavily dramatizes and alters aspects of his life (such as his time in the military or the nature of his hallucinations) for dramatic effect. We are left wondering how attitudes about mental illness have altered in the last 25 years.
